Data protection law

Personal data and privacy

Data protection law covers all rules relating to personal data and the privacy of individuals. For example, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) determines whether you may process personal data, and if so how, and which rules must be observed. Privacy rules are continuously changing and becoming stricter, and violations are subject to high fines. Our data protection law specialists advise on all aspects of privacy law.

Every company will have to deal with data protection law at some point. The first step is to create awareness as the impact of the European Data Protection Regulation is far-reaching.

What needs to be done to make a company as GDPR-proof as possible, for example? Privacy statements, cookie statements, data breach protocols and a privacy manual are all part of the protocol. Data processing agreements often have to be concluded as well. The aim is to prevent people from submitting a complaint to the Dutch Data Protection Authority. If this happens anyway, our privacy law specialists can assist companies in the procedure with the Authority, or in court.

We use our extensive experience and expertise to advise and litigate in a wide range of data protection law issues, including:

  • data protection policy
  • privacy statements, privacy disclaimers, cookie policy and data breach protocol
  • hiring and registering a data protection officer
  • protocol for video monitoring and monitoring the use of internet and e-mail in the workplace
  • consent form for processing employees’ personal data
  • data processing agreements
  • international transfer of data
  • notifications, monitoring and enforcement by the Dutch Data Protection Authority
  • data and security breaches
