From 1 July 2020, additional paternity leave has been made available.
The additional parternity leave had been announced together with the announcement of the Extra birth leave act (‘Wet invoering extra geboorteverlof) on 1 January 2019. The objectives of this act are:
- stimulation of the partners (husband/wife or unmarried partner) of the baby’s mother to participate in the baby’s upbringing;
- improvement of women’s participation in the employment market; and
- coming to a more balanced division of couples’ work and caretaking tasks.
